Recent Advance of Far Field Wireless Power Transfer Technology and Expectation of Novel Semiconductors

远场无线能量传输技术的最新进展与新型半导体研究展望

Abstract

Nearly 20 years have passed since a Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology began attracting attention in the world. At first, a near field WPT was started to be commercialized for a wireless charger for mobiles and for an electric vehicle. Recently, a far field WPT via microwaves is paid attention to expand the WPT applications from short distance wireless charger to unconscious wireless power. There are a lot of expected start-up companies promoting the far field WPT in the world. In International Telecommunication Union (ITU) recommends some frequencies suitable for the far field WPT in September, 2022. The advance of the far field WPT is based on the advance of beam forming antenna technology and novel circuit technology with semiconductors. In this talk, recent advance of the far field WPT technology is explained and current status of WPT market and standardization are also introduced.

无线能量传输(WPT)技术在全球引起关注至今已有近20年历史。近场WPT最早开始商业化是用于移动设备和电动汽车的无线充电。起初,近场WPT技术开始被商业化应用于移动设备和电动汽车的无线充电。最近,通过微波的远场WPT受到了关注,旨在将WPT应用从短距离无线充电扩展到无感无线供电。世界各地有许多初创公司正在推动远场WPT的发展。国际电信联盟(ITU)在2022年9月推荐了一些适用于远场WPT的频率。远场WPT的进展基于波束成形天线技术的进步以及新型半导体电路技术的发展。在本次演讲中,将解释远场WPT技术的最新进展,并介绍WPT市场和标准化的现状。

Biography of the Speaker

Naoki Shinohara received the B.E. degree in electronic engineering, the M.E. and Ph.D (Eng.) degrees in electrical engineering from Kyoto University, Japan, in 1991, 1993 and 1996, respectively. He was a research associate in Kyoto University from 1996. From 2010, he has been a professor in Kyoto University. He has been engaged in research on Solar Power Station/Satellite and Microwave Power Transmission system. He was IEEE MTT-S Distinguish Microwave Lecturer (2016-18), and is IEEE AdCom member (2022-2024), IEEE MTT-S Technical Committee 25 (Wireless Power Transfer and Conversion) former chair and member, IEEE MTT-S MGA (Member Geographic Activities) Region 10 regional coordinator, IEEE WPT Initiative Member, IEEE Wireless Power Transfer Conference & Expo founder and Steering committee member, URSI commission D former chair, the first chair and technical committee member on IEICE Wireless Power Transfer, Japan Society of Electromagnetic Wave Energy Applications former president and adviser, Space Solar Power Systems Society president, Wireless Power Transfer Consortium for Practical Applications (WiPoT) chair, and Wireless Power Management Consortium (WPMc) chair. His books are “Wireless Power Transfer via Radiowaves” (ISTE Ltd. and John Wiley & Sons, Inc.), “Theory and Technology of Wireless Power Transfer: Inductive, Radio, Optical, and Supersonic Power Transfer” (CRC Press), and “Wireless Power Transfer: Theory, Technology, and Applications (2ndEdition)” (IET), and some English, Japanese, and Chinese text books of WPT.

篠原直树分别于1991年、1993年和1996年在日本京都大学获得电子工程学士学位、电气工程硕士学位和博士(工学)学位。自1996年起,他在京都大学担任研究助理。自2010年起,他成为京都大学的教授。他一直从事太阳能发电站/卫星及微波能量传输系统的研究。他曾任IEEE MTT-S杰出微波讲师(2016-2018),现为IEEE行政委员会成员(2022-2024),IEEE MTT-S技术委员会25(无线能量传输与转换)前主席和成员,IEEE MTT-S MGA(会员地理活动)第10区区域协调员,IEEE无线能量传输倡议成员,IEEE无线电能传输会议与博览会创始人及指导委员会成员,URSI D委员会前主席,IEICE无线能量传输技术委员会首任主席及技术委员会成员,日本电磁波能量应用学会前会长及顾问,空间太阳能发电系统学会会长,实用无线能量传输联盟(WiPoT)主席,以及无线能量管理联盟(WPMc)主席。他的著作包括《通过无线电波进行无线能量传输》(ISTE Ltd.和John Wiley & Sons, Inc.出版),《无线能量传输的理论与技术:感应、无线电、光学和超声波能量传输》(CRC Press出版),《无线能量传输:理论、技术与应用(第二版)》(IET出版),以及多本英文、日文和中文的无线能量传输教材。
